About Kiki

Kathleen (Kiki) Ganz

For the past 25 years I was an art educator. My focus had been teaching and enriching the lives of students I have had in class and in after-school programs.

During this time, I have remained active in the developing of my own art. I have always had an interest in a variety of media, never concentrating on one and, therefore, never developing a “label” as a painter, sculpter, or pottery. I enjoy all forms of art and craft and often use mixed media in my work.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Art Education from Wright State University in 1981 and received my Masters in Art Education from Wright State in 1985.

I grew up in Hamilton, Ohio and lived in the Dayton area until 1990 when my family moved to South Carolina. We were southerners for 15 before returning to Ohio. While in SC, I was named Teacher of the Year in 1994/1995, taught photography at The Governer’s School for the Arts, listed numerous times in Whose Who of American Teachers, and was a red-ribbon winner at the SC State Fair as well as having works accepted annually in juried state fair shows.

I find inspiration everywhere. Sometimes a phrase in a song or a sentence in a novel will be all that is needed to inspire an image. Often, ideas come from deep emotion or strong beliefs. I find it helpful to be around other artists and to constantly “feed” myself with images of works of art and photography.

The movement of color as it flows across a surface ultimately leads to the direction of the completed design. Varied surfaces such as wood, canvas or metal play an important part in the final image.
